Citizenship for Amerasian Act (혼혈인 시민권 법안)

AMERASIAN BILL (HR 3987)
SEQUENCE OF EVENTS

JANUARY 2004 Jong-Joon Chun, attorney, first began lobbying for a bill that would grant automatic citizenship to Amerasians from five countries.
FEBRUARY 2004 Korean-American Women’s Association and Mr. Chun visited Congressman Jim Moran’s office in support of the Amerasian issue.
MARCH 2004 Congressmen Lane Evans and Jim Moran introduced HR 3987 on March 17, 2004.
APRIL 2004 Campaign began to send letters to the 37 members of the House Judiciary Committee.
JUNE 2004 Nationwide appeal went out to all members of Korean-American’s Women’s Association in support of HR 3987.
JULY 2004 Ten (10) members of congress co-sponsored HR 3987.
SEPTEMBER 2004 4,345 signatures obtained from the members of Organization of Korean-American schools in support of HR 3987.
OCTOBER 2004 Letters sent to 3,500 Korean-American churches asking for support of HR 3987.  Donations were received and used to purchase stamps for mailings to congressmen.
NOVEMBER 2004 Over 10,000 signatures obtained nationwide in support of HR 3987.  Signatures still being obtained.
2005

Plan to submit all petitions signed to Congressman Lane Evans and request re-introduction of Amerasian Bill to pursue passage.
